Activists from the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University have planned to protest in Sheffield city centre tomorrow.

The students are calling for a General Election following the appointment of Rishi Sunak as UK Prime Minister.

Sheffield Solidarity Group, comprised of university students, will begin their march from Devonshire Green to Sheffield Town Hall at noon on Saturday 29 October.

The group said: “Rishi Sunak will be our second unelected Prime Minister in a row. We need a General Election now. Join us if you believe in democracy.”

There have been further calls for a general election by Sheffield Labour MPs.

Sunak has become the third conservative MP in the space of three months following the resignation of Liz Truss.

Truss is the shortest serving UK Prime Minister in history, after resigning just 44 days into her new role.
